CNR Develops Advanced Automotive Transmission Diagnostics Rig
CNR has designed and delivered an automotive transmission test rig for high-speed diagnostics and analysis. The system combines precision engineering, robust safety, and straightforward operation. It supports accurate performance validation and improves product reliability across the automotive sector.
This bespoke solution was developed to meet the demanding requirements of the automotive sector, where accurate testing is critical for performance validation and product reliability.
Project overview
The brief called for a high-speed, repeatable, and easy-to-use test platform. Our solution delivers consistent measurements, rapid setup, and clear operator workflows. It is built to run rigorous duty cycles while protecting people, components, and data integrity.
Engineering design for accuracy and safety
We engineered a rigid, vibration-resistant frame to keep the drivetrain stable at speed. This stability improves signal quality and ensures repeatable results. Alignment features allow quick adjustment and full access to key test points, which reduces downtime and speeds changeovers.
- Rigid structure for high-speed stability
- Easy alignment and access to critical components
- Clear installation and monitoring procedures for every test cycle
Instrumentation, couplings and data integrity
Sensor and coupling locations were optimised to capture clean signals and prevent component damage. We defined cable routing, strain relief, and mounting details to minimise noise. The control and data acquisition (DAQ) strategy supports reliable real-time monitoring and traceable results.
- Optimised sensor/coupling placement
- Defined DAQ and control approach for reliable capture
- Procedures that protect components and improve repeatability
Bespoke guarding for operator protection
Safety was a top priority. We designed custom guarding to contain moving parts and prevent external interference with the test. The guarding meets operational safety needs and supports clear visibility for operators and engineers.
- Purpose-built guards around rotating equipment
- Interlocks and access management where required
- Unobstructed viewing for setup and observation
Outcomes and benefits
The finished automotive transmission test rig delivers:
- Accuracy – high-quality signals and consistent results
- Reliability – robust structure and proven workflows
- Efficiency – quick setup, easy maintenance, and faster test cycles
- Operator confidence – clear procedures and protective guarding
